2008 Festival of the Arts

Sponsored by DuBois Area Council on the Arts

Saturday, June 7, 2008, 10:00a.m. to 5p.m. (NO RAIN DATE)

Greetings, Artists and Craftsmen:
The DUBOIS FESTIVAL OF THE ARTS was founded 20 years ago by the DuBois Business and Professional Association. The purpose was two-fold: to attract people to the Downtown...and to provide a "community event" that would feature traditional crafts, fine arts, and live performances. We invite you to participate in Festival 2008.
Applications should be returned by May 16th and space assignments will be mailed by May 20th. If you have questions, please contact Festival Coordinator Marianne Fyda, representing the DuBois Area Council on the Arts (DACOTA) at (814) 371-6809.
If you are a craftsman, a demonstration would be appreciated, though not a requirement. We look forward to having you join in our celebration of the arts in DuBois!
Location: Under tents on West Long Avenue, in Historic Downtown DuBois, between Brady and High Streets.
Categories: Photography, sculpture, ceramics, glass, painting, graphics and drawing, fabrics and fiber, quilting, wood, metal, leather, and other traditional crafts (theorem, herbs, candle-making, basketry, etc.)
Standards: All work must be designed and executed by the artist. Not acceptable are: items made from commercial kits, stencils and patterns, plastic flowers, imports, molds, macrame, copies, shell crafts, and embellished commercial object. All work must be for sale unless otherwise noted. All artists and craftsmen must be 18 years of age or older.
Screening: To insure a high level of quality, a jury made up of DACOTA members will screen all applicants. Potential exhibitors should submit three slides or photographs with their application and a check for the appropriate fees. For the return of the slides/photos, please include a SASE (with $0.82 postage). Notification of acceptance will be mailed before the deadline for reservations. (Note: Previous exhibitors do not need to submit slides or photos.)
Display Spaces: Exhibitors are assigned a covered space of 9 feet by 10 feet, or an uncovered space of 10 feet by 10 feet. (You provide your own cover). Exhibitors must provide their own display equipment, set-up, and dismantling. Each booth must show exhibitors name. DACOTA reserves the right to rearrange or remove displays deemed unacceptable. Please plan to arrive in time to set up before 9:00a.m. After set-up, vehicles must be moved to an off-street location.
Liability: DACOTA will not assume liability for loss or damage to art. Submission of the application form for participation in FESTIVAL OF THE ARTS 2008 is in agreement of the applicant to the conditions of this prospectus.
Fees: A set-up fee to partially cover the cost of advertising and promotion is $35.00 per 9' by 10' space under our cover, and $30.00 per 10' by 10' space under your cover. Space assignments will be accepted on a first-come basis. Add $10.00 per space for electrical hook-up. Expanded advertising will cover approximately a 75 mile radius around DuBois. Applications must be received by May 16th in order to promote the event.
NO REFUNDS FOR CANCELLATION AFTER MAY 30TH.
DuBois Festival of the Arts 2008 is open free of charge to the public. Live entertainment, community involvement, festive food and drink are festival standards. The Festival is co-sponsored by the DuBois Area Council on the Arts and the DuBois Area Chamber of Commerce, with additionl funding and generous support from individuals, businesses and organizations in the DuBois Area, and a grant from the Pennsylvania Council on the Arts.
