Titchner-Scott presents Lumber, Coal, and Carbon

  • ECCOTA Gallery, 237 Main Street, Ridgway, PA 15853

Lumber, Coal, and Carbon: Why we came and Why we stayed. An industrial history of Elk County through song.

Mark and Bekki Titchner wrote The Factory Song in response to the economic downturn in 2008. This past year they were awarded a Pennsylvania Partners in the Arts grant to make a video of the song.

Rural areas like ours lose our young men and women to better opportunity and, unfortunately, the oft-heard lament, "There's nothing here," paints a picture of a dying community. But while there certainly are challenges, the history of the place perhaps has prepared it for the future. But no one has ever tried to tell this story in five minutes.

Using historical photos and video clips of some current industries the song chronicles Elk County’s past and gives a glimpse at its future.

Join us for an evening of video, live music, photography and celebration of our industrial history.
